Our Christmas Eve service was wonderful. We did get the snow cleared out of the parking lot and 40 people attended. We had a great dinner after a traditional service with candle light and carols. The snow did require that we provide transportation for some people and we were able to get that done too with a little help from several people with 4 wheel drive vehicles. We made the right call in making the extra effort to have the service. People were blessed.
Our first service of 2009, on Sunday January 4 will feature Darrell Wenzek preaching out of 2 Cor. 9:12-15 about “The Best Gifts.” Please come and be blessed with solid Biblical preaching.
Men should anticipate a breakfast at the Grange on January 10 at 8:30AM. Steve Hochenedel will prepare a traditional breakfast, after which we will view a short video of a presentation by CHARLIE PLUMB, a Vietnam prisoner of war about “Overcoming Adversity.” If you struggle with putting the past behind you, you should see CHARLIE’S presentation.
Our next congregational meeting will be after a lunch, which will be after the 10:00AM service on January 11. You certainly don’t need to be a member to attend. In fact, if you are interested in becoming a member, it is a good chance to observe how we do church business.
May God bless you and keep your driveway free of snow this week.

Happy New Year
December 29, 2008Christmas Eve Service
December 23, 2008We did cancel church on Sunday, December 21. We noticed some other churches did the same. Given the weather, we still think it was a wise decision.
We continue to expect to have our Christmas Eve service and light dinner. The Grange is kindly trying to get the parking lot cleared and we will help if we can. The Grange may clear it on Tuesday and we will clear it again
Wedensday AM if necessary.
The service will start at 5:00PM. Several of us will arrive earlier in the day for setup and to prepare the dinner. If you have questions, concerns, needs, please call Stan Walker at 331-7774, or cell 360-929-9709. The Grange number is 321-747. We will even come and get you if necessary.
Our prayer is that Christ will be glorified and that you will come and enjoy the evening.

Merry Christmas to all.
Global warming comes to Whidbey Island!
December 16, 2008It’s cold! But the parking lot at The Deer Lagoon Grange is manageable so don’t be afraid to come to either of our Sunday services or our Christmas Eve “Carols & Candlelight.”
Attendance on Sunday, Dec. 7 was very light because of the snow. But the few of us who made it enjoyed wonderful fellowship and a very good message from Ron Wedeking. Sorry you couldn’t be there.
This week Darrell Wenzek will continue with his series out of Genesis. We are not exactly sure where the message will come from, but we know he is past Gen. 5:32. Josh Wenzek will provide the music this week as Nancy Walker needs to leave early to get to a concert.
Please don’t forget our Christmas Eve service at 5:00 PM afterwhich there will be a light dinner. No need to bring anything unless you have some special dish you want to bring because the whole dinner will be provided and of course, there is no charge.
Please have a wonderful week in preparation for the celebration and may God Bless You during the next few days.
It was a great party!
December 8, 2008Saturday evening we had a wonderful progressive dinner. We first enjoyed appetizers at the Hochenedels and then moved on to soup and salad at Wenzeks, entree at Slepyans, and finally dessert at the Zapatas. Of course all of the food was just great, and the fellowship was especially enjoyable. Thanks to those four host families for opening up their homes and for all the work that such an event entails.
Control of our Sunday School hour has been returned to the regular programers. The video “A Case For Faith” by Lee Strobel was very enlightening and answered some big questions. If you have never seen it, you can borrow it from one of us. All you need to do is call one of us. But this week we have resumed our studies in Ephesians and Romans. However, the Romans study is concluding and will pick a new study as we approach the new year. In the meantime, all of us in the Romans group willl enjoy some individual studies until we pick a new one.
Absolutly do not miss our “Carols and Candlelight” Christmas Eve service. We will have a light dinner afterward and you won’t need to bring a thing except a desire to celebrate The Lord’s birth and a little bit of an appetite. The serice will start at 5:00PM so you will need to get off work only a little early if necessary and make it to the service. We really want you to be there.
Next Sunday, Ron Wedking will continue in the Book of Hebrews with a message about the level of our maturity in the spiritual sense of taking on some “solid food.” Please come, hear, and be blessed.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas
