Clarification

September 29, 2008

Recently the issue regarding female leadership with regard to speakers came to the forefront in our church life.  So our elders went to the scriptures and wrestled with the subject.  It’s not an easy issue because it is difficult to separate whatever might be cultural expressions from cross-cultural leadership principles that should remain consistent through time.  It was not a unaminous decision, and certainly the opinions of the minority are respected and valued, but eventually the elders decided to affirm male leadership with a policy statement as follows:

“Previous policy regarding speakers or preachers is rescinded.  Regularly scheduled preachers at Sunday morning worship services will be male.  Information and messages regarding ministries, missions, etc., and special events can be presented by female speakers.  Any question regarding the appropriateness of any message by any speaker should be resolved by the Elder Board in accordance with the standards of the doctrinal tenants of the National Association of Evangelicals.”

One of our dearly loved and regularly scheduled preachers, Pastor Darrell Wenzek, will share a messsage that is timeless this next Sunday, October 5, regarding “Understanding the Great Temptation,” from Genesis Chapter 3, verses 1-7.  Come and hear it and you will be strengthened and refreshed in a loving worship service with traditional music.

Scholar of the week

September 23, 2008

This week Dr. Miriam Adeney, a professor at Seattle Pacific University, and adjunct faculty member at Regent College and Fuller Theological Seminary will speak on September 28 on the topic of “How much power is enough?”  She is the incoming president of the American Society of Missiology and has studied and publish books on the subject; the titles of which can be found through Amazon.com by searching the author index.  She will speak on that subject to a combined Sunday School Class at 9:00AM, after which she will speak of the subject of power at our 10:00AM worship service.  Interestingly, our scholar of the month speakers sometimes present messages that are at variance with some of our attenders beliefs, but we view those instances as challenges rather than insults.  So we are always delighted to hear new speakers and look forward to hearing whatever message Our Lord provides.

All sermons presented by our several speakers and pastors are recorded.  CD or Windows audio attachments may be emailed or sent to you if you will call 221-8365.

The first Sunday in October will bring pastor Darrell Wenzek back to continue in his series with a message about “Understanding the Great Temptation,” out of Genesis Chapter 3: 1-7.

May God bless you as you seek Him this week.

Coming to SWCC this Sunday

September 8, 2008

Pastor Ron Wedeking will present a message out of Hebrews 3 about the relationship of Jesus and Moses.  Of course Jesus is the Son of God and Moses was a servant of God.  Both have, or had in the case of Moses, separate roles but Jesus is the sole person worthy of supreme faith.   Please come and hear Ron expand our understanding of the implications of that relationship.  And you may hear about the catastrophe of unbelief too.

The elders have heard the personal testimony of three new members:  Steve & Cheri Hochenedel, and Cheri’s Mom, Jean Babcock.  We will welcome them into the congregation on Sunday with an after church lunch/potluck.  Steve, who is known to be a great cook, will prepare a main dish.  Everyone else should bring their choice of a salad or dessert – don’t worry about the choice.  Somehow God has always worked that one out for us.  If you have any questions, call 331-7774 and we will find an answer for you.

God bless you this week.

Sunday September 7th

September 2, 2008

This week Pastor Darrell Wenzek will present a sermon entitled “Man is Not an Animal,” out of Genesis 2:5-20.  This message will be very interesting as last week’s guest preacher, Dr. Dana Wright – Phd. Princeton University – Christian Education, clearly said that man is an animal like the rest of God’s created creatures.  Well scripture says that “God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them…”  Plus Chapter 1 also provides some details about the sequence of the creation.  Maybe you better read it and form your own opinion so you can come prepared the hear the message.
