Starting in August…..

July 31, 2008

Returning speaker, Darrell Wenzek will begin a 4 week series starting  Sunday, August 3rd.  Darrell will first speak on “I Believe” from II Timothy 3:16-17.  He will continue the following weeks with “In the Beginning”, “God Created” and “The Heavens and the Earth”.  The Creation is a subject that is close to Darrell’s heart, as he has frequently presented the Creation to several South Whidbey youth groups.  We look forward as always to hearing Darrell speak and encourge you to join us.

For the week of July 20 to July 26

July 22, 2008

Sometimes the physical world does matter a little to people.  Especially when it comes being comfortable during church.  So we have ordered some new chairs that are going to be enjoyed for years to come.  They are stackable with 3 inch cushions.  We hope to get them within three to four weeks.  In other words, if you have been lamenting our seating arrangements, they are about to improve substantially.

We enjoyed a wonderful BBQ at the Craft home on the beach at Mutiny Bay after church last Sunday.  Of course finding your way to a new place can be a challenge, but the people who did enjoyed great food, a beautiful day, and as nice a beach as you can find on Whidbey.  The lesson here is that the next time we plan a social event, you should put it on your schedule and make sure to be there.  You won’t regret it.

Because our scholar of the month is not available next Sunday, Pastor Ron Wedeking will continue with another message out of Hebrews.  Pastor Ron describes himself as our “permanent part-time preacher,” which is quite true.  Of course we have other preachers that we love too.  But Ron’s messages during this series have been especially meaningful.    If you come, you will be blessed with inspirational preaching right out of scripture.

Remember, Sunday School hour begins at 9:00A and worship begins at 10:00A.  We invite you to be there and hope to see you soon.

If you have a question, please contact us during this week, by calling Jim or Anita Craft at 331-7161.

God is still doing great things – saving people from themselves

July 13, 2008

Sunday July 20 will again feature Pastor Ron Wedeking bringing another message to us in his series out of the Book of Hebrews.  Last Sunday we heard about the reality of angels and their relationship to Chist and ourselves.  It is exciting, interesting and encouraging.  Please come and hear the rest of the series.

But don’t wait until 10:00AM for the worship service.  It is summer time!  Get out early and come to one of our two Bible Study groups at 9:00Am.  Jim Craft and his people are studying in Ephesians and Stan Walker his group are marching with the Romans out of the end of chapter 9 and into chapter 10.  You have to be in fellowship around God’s Word to experience the refreshing encouragement that is always available to us there.

Our mid-week Bible Studies are vacationing this week.  But please know that if you are interested in a Wedneday evening study,  you should call Rick Zapata at 341-1649.  For Thursday evenig, call Stan Walker at 331-7774.  If it is a ladies study you are looking for, please call Cheri Hochenedel at 321-4693.  Of course you already read about the Sunday morning studies that meet every week.

This Sunday we will have a beach BBQ on Mutiny Bay at the home of Jim & Anita Craft right after church.  Bring a salad or dessert and your appetite.  Please call Jim or Anita at 331-7161 for directions.  Everyone who enjoys fellowship and a good time is invited.

Reminder:  Congregational meeting at the Walkers house at 7:00PM Monday July 14.  Please call 331-7774 for directions.

The easiest way to contact us is via email at swcchurch@comcast.net but you can reach us via snail mail at P.O. Box 95 Freeland, WA 98249.  Or if you need to speak to someone, please call Stan Walker at 331-7774.  We look forward to seeing you Sunday, if not sooner.

This week at South Whidbey Community Church

July 7, 2008

Pastor Ron Wedeking is back and will be sharing his second message this week in a continuing series based on the Book of Hebrews.  Of course Hebrews has much to say about the superiority of the Person of Christ and of the Priesthood of Christ.  It is a powerful book about the power of Christ.  Ron will be amplifying those messages for us in the coming months.

Plus we will have special music provided by Bruce Forbes who will be visiting us and sharing a solo.  Bruce has a wonderful voice and will add much to our worship as we all sing some of the great hymns.

But don’t just wait until 10:00AM to come to the worship service.  Please join one of two Bible Study groups that meet at 9:00AM.  Jim Craft is leading a study in Ephesians and Stan Walker is leading a study in Romans.  Both studies will build up your knowledge of the faith and help you get to know our people as we share how scripture impacts our lives.

We have mid-week Bible studies on Wednesday evening and a ladies study on Mondays.  The Thursday evening study is in recess right now, but will resume in late summer.  Please call Rick Zapata at 341-1649 for details about the Weds. study.  And call Connie Angst at 221-8365 or Cheri Hochenedel at 321-4693 regarding the ladies study.

We will be having a summer picnic at the Crafts place on the beach on July 20 after church.  Of course you won’t know how much fun you missed if you are not there, but you will miss a great time if you don’t get involved and let us know you are coming.

God bless you

Independence Day Week (4th of July)

July 1, 2008

This week we celebrate our declaration of independence on July 4, 1776.  We need to remember how significant that really was because it ushered into the world the first country dedicated to the freedom of the individual.  Sometimes we are distressed because of the choices some of our fellow citizens make because of that freedom.  But we need to remember that our freedom would not exist if it were not for our Judeo-Christian heritage which is a testimony to what Christ is doing in this world.  We should be pleased to be even a small part of that and remember that our form of government is the standard by which civilization and freedom in Christ can be shard with the rest of the world.  As Christians, we are free from the bondage of sin that controls so much of the world.

This week at SWCC, one of our favorite pastors Ron Wedeking, will start a series of three messages about “Great Themes from the Book of Hebrews.”  He will be preaching all the next three weeks in Hebrews and will then continue the series the next time he preaches in the rotation of speakers.  We look forward to it.

Worship service starts at 10:00AM, but don’t forget Sunday morniing Bible Study at 9:00AM.  We have two groups that meet.  Jim Craft is leading a study in Ephesians.  Stan Walker is leading a study in Romans. These classes offer an opportunity to share and discuss the application of scripture to our lives.

We have a mid-week Bible study that is led by Art Angst at the home of Rick and Dinah Zapata at 7:00PM on Wedenday evenings.  Call Rick or Dinah at 341-1649 for location and details.  The Walker Bible study will pause for about 8 weeks.  The womens Bible study meets at 2:00PM on Mondays.  It is led by Cheri Hochenedel at the home of Connie Angst.  Please call Connie at 221-8365 for location and details.

May God bless you and keep you this week.
